News from the “Pete”

UPDATED 8/12/2021 – Last week’s action at the Pete saw only one bowler move into the top ten. Kent Jacobson (Appleton, WI) put up a 1,607 eight game tally which was good enough for 4th place in the Singles Major category. Joseph Beck (Oregon, OH) still leads the Pete with his 1,635 score as we enter our final 30 days of competition.

There’s only 24 days until we close the infamous Golden Gates for the final time in 2021, but it will be a busy and interesting (as always) final few weeks. Next week is “PBA Week” at the Pete with PBA Tour Champ Toby Contreras hosting two squads on Monday, August 16, followed by the PBA / PBA50 Petersen Classic Midwest/Central Championship on Tuesday, August 17 and Wednesday, August 18. If you are in the area, stop by and watch the pros take on those challenging Pete lane conditions!

Even with just a few short weeks remaining, we still have openings available for full squads, small groups and individuals. Don’t get shut out at this year’s Pete! UPDATED JULY 11, 2021 – We have a new leader at the Pete!

The scoring pace had slowed down over the past several weekends, and Alan Blome (Racine, WI) was perhaps starting to feel a bit comfortable with his 1,597 score at the top of the Pete Singles standings. Well, that all changed today when another local bowler, Chad Kloss from West Allis, WI crushed Alan’s score by posting a 1,628, grabbing the lead by 31 pins.

Starting his set on lanes 11 & 12, Chad came out of the gate posting non-threatening scores of 184, 211, 168 and 170 for a 733 4-game total, a full -67 pins off of a 200 pace. The break after the fourth game must have done wonders as Chad rolled a 268 in game #5 and never was under 200 (209, 214, 204) for the remaining three games. He finished with an 895 for his final four games and an 8-game total of 1,628.

If Chad’s name sounds familiar, it should as he’s a past Pete Champion – he won the 97th Petersen Classic back in 2007 with a score of 1,657.

Are you ready to see if you can top Chad’s score? If you haven’t booked your spot yet for these year’s Pete, what are you waiting for? There are still openings available for full squads, small groups and individuals. And don’t forget our special 4th of July squad with a reduced entry fee!
